Nolan’s is a family-run hardware store in Clontarf, known locally for its experienced team, customer service and variety of quality products, including Calor gas cylinders.Established in 1977, and owned and managed by Paul Nolan, the hardware store is part of a larger offering, with a supermarket attached which is run by brother, Richard.
Offering quality products and excellent service is at the core of Nolan’s Hardware. Nolan’s Hardware currently have a team of 12 full-time and part-time staff, some of whom, like Calor, have been with them since 1977. Nolan’s Hardware has attributed its success over the years to their dedication and support of the local community.
Since March 2020 when lockdown commenced, most Irish businesses have faced grave challenges. Nolan’s Hardware was somewhat fortunate in that they could continue trading as they adapted to circumstances by using a ‘click-and-collect’ model. The fact that hardware store is attached to the supermarket placed the business in the category of essential services.
The store continued strong business this year to date, maintaining all jobs, and even increasing hours for some of their part-timer workers.
Nolan’s Hardware definitely felt the benefit of the long spells of good weather Ireland had between March and August. This resulted in a surge in home and garden DIY, and a huge increase in outdoor cooking and entertainment features like outdoor furniture, barbeques, patio heaters, and of course, Calor gas cylinders to fuel.
Nolan’s Supermarket, attached to the hardware entity, has undergone an extensive refurbishment over the past few months. Paul Nolan, the owner and manager of Nolan’s Hardware, saw an opportunity during lockdown, to revamp the hardware store and garden centre, giving it a fresh look and feel and making the business premises more attractive to customers who visit.
Paul Nolan, Owner and Manager of Nolan’s Hardware commented:
“We are proud to be a long-standing member of the Clontarf community. While there is healthy competition in the area, there is also a great sense of community. We have a loyal local customer base, most of whom I know by name, and many of whom I have watched grow up over the years coming in and out of the store.
Between people spending more time in their homes and the good weather during the summer, we have been really pleased with our business growth, which wouldn’t be possible without suppliers like Calor who continued delivering goods to maintain stock. While these times have been universally challenging, we are pleased to hold our own as completely independent store and celebrate the small accomplishments along the way.”
