Killeavy Castle Estate, a Calor customer, has won the coveted All Island Award of Castle Hotel of the Year 2020 at the Irish Hotel Awards. The Award comes as the hotel reopens its doors on its first anniversary.
The Irish Hotel Awards recognise and reward excellence in hospitality and service across Ireland. The awards are among a small number that take an island-wide approach to the hospitality industry.
Killeavy Castle Estate is a beautifully restored castle offering customers boutique accommodation nestled in 350 acres of mixed farm and woodland in County Armagh’s stunning Slieve Gullion.
The Estate carried out an extensive restoration project following the purchase of the derelict castle, which sat idle for over a decade. It was transformed following a £12 million investment. Management at Killeavy Castle paid great attention to its sustainability credentials to respect and reflect its surroundings throughout the extensive restoration programme.
With this in mind, owners worked with Calor to install an LPG heating system, which is flexible, efficient and creates significantly lower emissions than oil-based systems. This is because Calor LPG fuel is a cleaner alternative, making a real difference to the environment.
There is a growing trend towards responsible travellers – holiday-makers who can relax and unwind while being conscious of environmental and cultural sensitivities. The hospitality sector as an industry is energy intensive, Killeavy Castle Estate has listened and responded to the customer needs, from the superb cuisine with ingredients sourced from the onsite farm, to the energy system powered by Calor. Consideration and attention to detail have been rewarded through the prestigious Irish Hotel Awards group.
Commenting on the award, Jason Foody, General Manager of Killeavy Castle Estate said:
