Calor is proud to announce that it has achieved reaccreditation with the Business Working Responsibly Mark.

For almost 90 years, Calor has ensured that homes and businesses across Ireland – and particularly rural Ireland – have had access to clean, reliable, lower carbon energy, regardless of location. Calor’s purpose is to drive Ireland’s energy transition and create a sustainable future for generations to come. That purpose is underpinned by Calor’s achievement of the coveted Business Working Responsibly Mark in 2020, Ireland’s Economic, Environmental, Social and Governance (EESG) standard.

Calor is one of only 40 leading companies in Ireland who have been awarded the Mark. It was developed by Business in the Community Ireland in 2010 and is externally verified following an independent audit by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI).

Commenting on the achievement, Duncan Osborne, Chief Executive of Calor, said:

"The Business Working Responsibly Mark is a testament to the collective effort of our team at Calor towards building a sustainable future. Achieving this reaccreditation validates our ongoing commitment to economic, environmental and social responsibility and underscores the integral role that sustainability plays in shaping our business strategy. We believe that by embracing the principles of the Business Working Responsibly Mark, we not only strengthen our reputation as a responsible business but also create long-term value for our employees, customers, suppliers, the environment and rural communities across Ireland."

Calor’s sustainability commitments include delivering a best-in-class customer experience; promoting employee wellbeing, diversity and development; responsible product development and promotion; environmental stewardship, and community engagement.

Through its core LPG product and growing sustainable fuels offering, Calor plays a crucial role in Ireland’s energy transition, providing cleaner alternatives to traditional fuels to homes and businesses located off the natural gas grid.

At an operational level, Calor is committed to driving emissions reductions across its sites with a focus on fleet and energy efficiency measures. Actions taken to date include installing smart meters to measure and report on energy usage, the introduction of energy efficiency LED lighting as well as tackling energy management using LPG/BioLPG, solar panels and renewable electricity. Calor is also currently trialling the use of HVO to drive fleet emission reductions.

Tomás Sercovich, CEO, Business in the Community Ireland, said: “We applaud Calor Ireland for being recertified with the Business Working Responsibly Mark and for using it to drive all EESG aspects of sustainability into all areas of their business. They showed leadership and commitment throughout the entire process. They successfully used the Mark framework to challenge, unite and drive their internal teams to deliver the ongoing transformation needed to address the sustainability challenge. We are delighted to have Calor Ireland as an active partner with us in this collective movement for change.”

Calor employees are crucial ambassadors for sustainability, supported by an active leaders’ team.  The company is hosting its second annual Staff Sustainability Day on April 24th, aligning with Earth Day 2024’s theme of ‘Planet vs Plastics’.

The company has introduced a series of employee initiatives including the 'Spring Planting for Biodiversity' campaign, adopting a beehive with Blackwater Honey based in Co. Cork and renewed its partnership with the Rewrite program, an initiative under the Cool Planet Group, aimed at educating schoolchildren about sustainability and climate change.

As Calor proudly continues its EESG journey, together, we're not only shaping a sustainable future for generations to come but also fostering a culture of responsibility and environmental stewardship. Join us in celebrating progress and embracing our collective path to a more sustainable tomorrow.
